Hi, I'm Clay Ludwig

I tell stories with
data, code and design.

August 2022

I started at the University of Maryland as an information science major.

I learned to code, picked up R and got comfortable with data.

November 30, 2022

OpenAI released ChatGPT.

Three months into my degree, I realized what this could mean for the work I was learning to do. So I started experimenting with it.

2023–Present

I started building things
I couldn't have built alone.

Late 2023

My major stopped making sense.

Increasingly, I was studying for jobs that could soon be automated away. I started looking for what AI couldn't replace.

2024

So I switched to journalism.

Total 180. But newsrooms are full of people who can write and short on people who can code. I figured I could be useful there.
